Special 'stabilised' version of our standard 210g 2x2 twill carbon fabric which allows this carbon cloth to be handled and cut without distortion or fraying, ideal for butt-joints and neat seams.
Profinish is Easy Composites' special stabilising binder which is sprayed onto the reverse side of the cloth, visible as tiny speckles. This coating makes the fabric easy to cut and handle but less 'drapable' over compound curves.
Available in 1m width, sold by the linear metre.

Developed specifically to address the practical problems of trying to create cosmetically perfect carbon fibre parts when working with a delicate dry fabric like 2/2 twill, ProFinish™ is a unique material that can transform the way you work with carbon fibre.
ProFinish™ carbon fibre is 100% genuine carbon fibre fabric that has been partially impregnated with a resin binder on the reverse side. This resin binder keeps the weave perfectly aligned during handling an positioning in the mould and - even more amazingly - allows the fabric to be cut and jointed with perfect, sharp cut-lines previously only seen on pre-preg parts.
Typical Uses
ProFinish™ carbon fibre fabric is perfect for any application where the best possible visual appearance is required. ProFinish™ only needs to be used for the visible layer of carbon fibre on a part so when making 100% carbon fibre parts you only need to use ProFinish™ for the 1st layer into the mould.
How to Buy
This roll is 1m (39") wide and the fabric is sold by the linear metre. The unit price shown is for 1 linear metre but volume discounts automatically apply for larger quantities of fabric.
Please purchase the number of linear metres you require. When purchasing multiple metres the fabric will be supplied in one continuous length on a roll.
Further Information
Flat Sheet
ProFinish™ is the first choice when manufacturing carbon fibre flat sheet where its ability to remain distortion free results in a much more consistent appearance to the resulting sheet.
Resin Infusion
ProFinish™ is also a fantastic choice for resin infusion projects where the ability to make neat cut lines in the material means that a finish comparable to pre-preg parts can be achieved when laminating parts using resin infusion. Adjustment and repositioning of the fabric within the mould (during the vacuum bagging process) is also much less likely to disturb or distort the material.
Skinning/Wrapping Parts in Carbon Fibre
If you are skinning/wrapping carbon fibre around the outside of a part (for cosmetic purposes) then ProFinish again comes into its own where its ease of handling, perfect weave alignment and ability to make neat sharp cut-lines give it a big advantage when doing large or complicated parts to a professional standard.
ProFinish™ carbon uses a 210g, 3k, 2/2 twill carbon fibre fabric. This fabric uses the top quality Mitsubishi-Rayon Pyrofil TR30S 3K fibres in its manufacture.

For wet-lay lamination you will use approximately the same weight of resin as the weight of the fabric. For example, with a 200gsm cloth, for 1 square metre you will have 200g of fabric and thus will need 200g of resin to wet it out, plus a small amount of wastage for the brush and mixing pot.
Thickness of any reinforcement is dependent on consoldation (how much it's 'squashed down'. For this reason we generally give out thickness figures for when the reiforcement is consoldated under vacuum (1bar); this seems like the most useful figure. For example, a 90gsm carbon, a single layer, compressed under vacuum, would be about 0.1mm thick. For a 200gsm carbon a single layer would be about 0.25mm thick. This is the number you see listed under 'thickness' in the specification table.
You can purchase a sample of our fabrics here.
Well, this depends entirely on what reinforcement you're laminating, speficically how thick and heavy it is. If you're laminating 5mm of carbon fibre you'll use a lot more resin that if you're laminating just 1mm of it. Fortunately though there a really quick rule to get a good estimate - simply add up the total weight of your reinforcement and you'll probably need the same weight in resin. This means that if you're laminating 5 layers of 200g carbon (so a total of 1000g of carbon) then you'll want about 1000g (i.e. 1kg) of Epoxy Resin. If it was 2 layers of 450g glass then you'd need about 900g per square metre.
The carbon fabric itself will survive many hundreds of degrees and is not the limiting factor for almost all applications. The limiting factor will be the heat distortion temperature of the resin system you plan to laminate this fabric with.
An engine rocker/cam cover may easily be exposed to hot oils at around 120°C as well as heat from the exhaust which would be dependent on the engine configuration and level of tune. As such we would recommend considering using a higher temperature resin system such as our Very High Temperature Epoxy Laminating Resin which, with an appropriate post-cure, can be used up to 180°C.
An alternative option would be to consider making the part with an out of autoclave pre-preg carbon fibre where typically the resin systems can achieve a HDT up to 120°C.
For very critical applications, such as aerospace, even dry carbon fabrics will be 'lifed' due to very gradual degradation of the sizing on the fibres, however in practice, for most applications, the degradation is minimal and most users would consider dry fabrics to not have a shelf life when stored appropriately.
All Carbon fibres are naturally charcoal black in colour.
Good question! - It shouldn't actually matter because when the resin wets out the fabric it should make the binder invisible however I think most people would choose to use the material binder-side down, just in case. This will mean that no matter what, the fabric you're looking at will be the clean face, with no evidence of the binder.
Even if the weave alignment is perfect, there can still be small gaps in the weave due to how tightly it is woven, so we would still recommend the use of the black basecoat resin. You need a resin basecoat for adhesion reasons anyway so using a black pigmented basecoat solves both problems.
