Professional/industrial vacuum pump designed for rapid degassing, large-scale vacuum bagging/resin infusion and centralised vacuum installations. Owing to its internal oil mist recovery, EC20 is suitable for both high vacuum applications (such as prepreg, infusion, degassing) and prolonged use in a leaking condition.
220/240V operation only. Please choose the correct power lead for your region.

Developed in conjunction with leading Italian pump manufacturer DVP, EC20 is high capacity vacuum pump designed specifically for the industrial composites market. EC20 offers the fast pull-down, continuous operation, high vacuum level, and reliability demanded in a production environment.
The 99.8% (2 mbar) vacuum level makes EC20 suitable for use in composites processes that require the highest vacuum level, such as out-of-autoclave prepregs and resin infusion. The large 20m³/hr capacity makes EC20 suitable for use with large vacuum bagging operations or as the powerplant for a centralised vacuum system, whilst its optimised vacuum curve delivers the fastest possible pull-down for rapid degassing of resins and silicones.
The pump’s relatively quiet operation, continuous duty cycle, check-valve and virtually mist free operation make it suitable for most environments, including manufacturing facilities, workshops, laboratories, schools and universities.
EC20 represents the very best in light industrial vacuum pumps and will deliver years of reliable service and superior performance even in the busiest workshop, university or laboratory.
Recommended Uses
Please note: EC20 is NOT suitable for use degassing materials with a high moisture content (such as plaster) or for vacuum drying.
Key Features
Further Information
Continuous Operation
Thanks to its continuous gas ballast and internal oil-mist separator, EC20 is capable of running for prolonged periods, or continuously, against high levels of leakage (up to 400 mbar) without emitting any oil/mist/smoke or running out of oil.
Size Capability
EC20 has a free air displacement of 20m³/hr (12 CFM) making it suitable for large scale (10m²+) vacuum bagging or resin infusion projects.
For vacuum degassing operations, EC20’s optimised vacuum curve means its draw-down time can be up to 3 times faster than conventional oil-bath type pumps of the same stated free air displacement.
Zero* Oil Mist/Vapour
EC20’s internal oil-mist separation and recovery system results in near zero emissions of oil/mist/smoke, making it suitable for use in sensitive environments such as confined workshops, schools, universities and laboratories, even when operated against a leaking condition (up to 400 mbar). *Conventionally noticeable/detectable.
Vacuum Pump Oil
EC20 is an oil lubricated vacuum pump and requires the correct type of oil to run. Oil should be checked and replaced regularly, according to the operating instructions. To avoid leakage during transport, the pump is shipped empty of oil but is supplied with a bottle of oil sufficient to fill the pump.
Replacement oil must be BV32 / ISO VG 32 / SW40, such as our VPO32 vacuum pump oil, sold separately.
International Use - 220-240V ONLY
EC20 is suitable for use in all countries and territories with a 220-240V mains supply. The pump is available with a choice of the most popular international mains plug types. Please choose the plug type you require from the drop-down menu at the top of the page. This pump cannot be operated on a 110V mains supply such as in the USA or Japan.
Vacuum Degassing
EC20 is recommended for rapid pull-down of large chambers for vacuum degassing; the fast pull-down being essential when working with highly reactive resins and silicones where achieving full vacuum inside the chamber quickly is critical.
EC20's throughput of 330l/m means that it can pull a typical 26 litre degassing chamber down to almost total vacuum extremely quickly. For further details on pull-down times, see below:

Time to 99% Vacuum | 3m 10s | 1m 5s |
Time to 99.9% Vacuum | 7m 30s | 2m 50s |
Accessories
EC20 in standard form is supplied complete and simply needs to be mounted in place and filled with the supplied oil before it can be used. The following optional accessories are available to assist with installation and operation in different settings.

Yes, connected to a suitable vacuum investment and casting machine, this vacuum pump would be perfectly suitable for supplying the vacuum to the chamber. Depending on the size of the equipment you would be connecting to, you might also consider our smaller EC4 vacuum pump.
The EC20 would pull faster because, when you open the resin feed, the effective suction across the bag is a factor of the pump and the viscosity of the resin system as the resin side is, in essence, only holding partial vacuum (albeit no air) due to the resin flowing from high pressure to low. On a larger part it would probably not be too noticeable (eg a 2-3sqm panel), but smaller panels it may cause the resin to skim over the mesh without soaking into the fibre. This can be a problem in general on smaller panels or thick lay ups so not just down to the effect of the pump.
It is not possible to control or change the level of vacuum the pump achieves directly, it's designed to run at full vacuum only. However it is possible to use a separate vacuum regulator to control the level of vacuum in connected apparatus (chamber, vacuum bag etc.). The regulator would sit between the pump and the bag/chamber and can reduce the level of vacuum on the 'set' side of the regulator. For most vacuum levels our compact SMC Vacuum Regulator could be used with our EC.20 pump, however, if you only need a very low level of vacuum (20% or less) then a higher capacity regulator would be required when used with the EC.20 vacuum pump.
Pump is working as described, no issues so far. Vacuum level is stable and good.
