300gsm chopped strand mat glass reinforcement using a powder binder. Because the powder binder breaks down physically, rather than by a solvent in the resin, powder-bound CSM can be used with solvent-free resins, such as epoxy.
950mm wide. Sold by the linear metre or in full box quantities.

Chopped strand mat (or CSM as it is often known) is the most widely used of all composite reinforcement materials.
Short strands of glass are randomly scattered and bound to create a mat which can then be wetted out with resin and used as a general purpose reinforcement for traditional fibreglass (GRP/FRP) moulds or parts.
Due to its comparatively low performance compared with alternative reinforcements (woven glass fabric, carbon fibre, Kevlar etc.) chopped strand mat is certainly not at the forefront of advanced composites but there are still applications where it is used in parts and it is still used extensively in the production of patterns and moulds for more advanced composites.
Typical Uses
Our 300g powder bound CSM is suitable for use with all resin systems including epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester and phenolic resin so if you want to use just one type of chopped strand mat this is the one to go for.
How to Buy
This roll is 950mm (37.5") wide and the mat is sold by the linear metre. The unit price shown is for 1 linear metre, volume discounts automatically apply for larger quantities of mat.
Please purchase the number of linear metres you require. When purchasing multiple metres, for shorter lengths, the fabric will be supplied folded to keep package size and hence shipping costs down. If you need your fabric on a roll for a specific application then please contact us and we will be more than happy to supply it that way. For larger lengths, the fabric may be supplied in two or more pieces.
A minimum order quantity of 3m applies to this product.
Also available to buy in a full 28kg (approx) box. Please select from the drop down menu

Why 'Powder Bound'?
Necessarily the individual strands of glass that make up the mat need something to bind them together. In conventional emulsion bound CSM the binder is broken down by the polyester or vinylester resin it is designed to be laminated with. However, the binder used in conventional CSM is not broken down by epoxy resin meaning the individual strands all stay together in their original mat making the CSM impossible to laminate with properly.
'Powder Bound' fibreglass matting (CSM) is designed for use as chopped strand mat for epoxy resin, using a powder based binder that does not need to be broken down in the same way as emulsion bound mat, making it essential for use when laminating with epoxy resin, either making a mould or a part.

For hand laminating with chop strand mat you will typically need 2-2.5 times the weight of the fabric in resin. 100g of cloth will need around 200-250g of resin.
