Features Explained
Touchscreen Controller
Developed and manufactured by Easy Composites, the touchscreen controller allows the user to intuitively create and run even the most complex ramp and dwell programs. The onscreen graphing overlays a live temperature trace of the internal temperature as well as the auxiliary sensor temperature on to the complete program profile.
Ramp and Soak Programming
The controller has a large internal memory that allows for large numbers of complex ramp and soak cycles to be stored. The cycles can have full alpha-numeric names for easy selection and can even be saved to a USB stick to allow sharing between multiple ovens and restoration should they accidentally be modified or deleted. The option of enabling password protection can also be used to prevent unauthorised/accidental modifications of the saved programs.
Data-Logging
Whenever the oven begins to run a cycle, it automatically searches for a connected USB stick, if found the controller will automatically create a log file on the USB stick and begin datalogging. Once the cycle is complete, this USB stick can simply be removed and plugged into any PC where the log file(s) can be accessed.
Vacuum Pump Control Socket
The oven features an integrated power socket for the connection of a vacuum pump. This allows the vacuum pump to be automatically switched off at the end of the cycle, saving electricity and reducing unnecessary wear on the pump. The socket can also be manually controlled from the touchscreen for convenience. The Socket is power limited and fused to output a maximum of 500W.
Vacuum Ports
The 2-vacuum ports on the side of the oven allow the connection a vacuum bag inside the oven, to a vacuum pump outside of the oven. As standard the oven features ¼” BSP female sockets both inside and outside of the oven. By fitting an appropriately sized hose tail barb both inside and out, a basic connection can be established, however the optional vacuum valve assembly and gauge allows easy connection with the additional benefits of both a vacuum pressure readout and an isolating valve allowing the vacuum to be shut-off. The optional vacuum valve and gauge also includes hose tail barbs to suit the Easy Composites 8mm ID Silicone Vacuum Hose.
Typical Uses
Further Information
Precision Temperature Control with Ramp and Soak
The oven delivers the highest standards of PID temperature control accuracy, utilising high-quality RTD temperature measurement coupled with effective fan-assisted airflow to minimise stratification.
OV301 even boasts full 'ramp and soak' temperature control which can control heating rates (degrees per minute), and hold for a specific length of time at set temperatures. Although useful in a range of curing processes, 'ramp and soak' control like this is a feature usually reserved for only the most advanced laboratory ovens and autoclaves.
Temperature, ramp and soak are all fully programmable so recommended cure and post-cure cycles for different materials can be saved and run automatically for the ultimate in precision and consistency.
Options
OV301 has been designed from the ground-up to offer all the functionality desirable in a fully featured composites benchtop curing oven and as such is available with a choice of options to ensure it provides a 'turn-key' system to match your needs. Please select any options from the drop-down list at the top of the page.
Vacuum Valve Assemblies
OV301 includes two integral vacuum ports which can be supplied complete with optional gauge and valve assemblies for convenient connection of one or two separate vacuum lines into the oven. This optional assembly includes an 8mm hose tail barb to fit to the inside vacuum port enabling the connection of Easy Composites 8mm silicone hose. This hose is suitably temperature and pressure rated for use inside the oven.
Auxiliary Temperature Probe
An auxiliary temperature probe can be connected to the socket on the front of the oven. This will provide feedback on the temperature of the part or tool being processed. This data is also automatically logged in the datalogging file created on any connected USB flash drive.
Additional Shelves
The oven is supplied as standard with on moveable internal shelf. Additional shelves are available allowing for the curing of multiple small parts. Up to 3 evenly spaced shelves can be fitted (1 supplied + 2 optional extras)
Fitting, removing, and repositioning the shelves is a simple tool-free operation. The shelves simply lift up and slide out. This allows the oven’s internal layout to be easily reconfigured and provides great access for cleaning.
The shelf is a sheet metal construction featuring swaged ventilation holes to minimise the risk of tearing vacuum bags when loading and positioning parts, insure excellent air flow and temperature distribution, and virtually eliminate the risk of the shelves marking the part or material being processed.
3m Vacuum Pump IEC Extension Cable
When connecting the EC4 vacuum pump to the integrated vacuum pump control socket, the vacuum pump must be positioned on the right-hand side of the oven to allow the standard power cable to reach. If you wish to position the EC4 vacuum pump on the left-hand side of the oven or in another location, the 3m IEC extension cable can be used.

The internal depth is measured from the fan enclosure rather than back wall.
Yes you can set a password to protect the programmed cycles. There is a specific section on how to do this in the oven manual.
If the mould is large in volume as well as length, you may possibly restrict the air flow and not have as even a temperature gradient across the oven. But the main issue may be the bag rubbing between the mould edge and the oven wall which may cause a puncture. Careful use of breather cloth as a cushion on those edges should help minimise this.
Yes, the OV301 oven has two vacuum ports and you can choose the optional gauge assemblies to go on these ports. That gives you two independent vacuum feeds into the oven. On the outside of the oven you could either connect each port to a totally separate vacuum supply or you could branch (using a T or Y connector) from one pump onto each of these connectors. It's worth remembering that if you connect both ports to the same pump, a leak in one bag/line will affect the other bag. For true separation you would need two vacuum sources (i.e. two pumps).
The External Dimensions shown include the oven enclosure on the side and the fan shroud on the back.
The oven does not have any fume extraction vents and, as such, is not designed for dealing with large quantities of volatile solvents or flammable vapours.
Yes, the oven comes pre-installed with every curing cycle for every Easy Composites product available at the time of sale. These programs are user modifiable. The latest versions of these curing cycles can be found in the Downloads section on this webpage and uploaded to your oven via the USB port at any time.
Yes, by simply plugging in a standard USB drive, the oven will datalog, creating a generic .csv file. This file can be opened by most standard spreadsheet software, for example Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. Once in this software the data can be manipulated into graphs or reports and easily printed.
No auxillary temperature sensors are not included with the oven but there is a standard mini temperature sensor socket on the front of the oven to which either a PT100 or PT1000 RTD sensor can be connected. Once connected, the oven will display a temperature trace for this sensor on the graph as well as datalog the reading during running.
I wish to place the oven in a relatively tight space under the workbench.
The oven requires 100mm to the rear to enable an electrical connection but a minimum of 50mm is allowable for ventilation if this connection can be recessed into the wall. 100mm is required on both sides. 100mm is required on top.
The oven itself is not designed to work on the US 120V system due to the components within the oven itself. Many US domestic and business supplies are able to have a 240V output fitted due to the hot-hot-ground split phase in the U.S. which is two hot wires of 120V AC with a 180° phase shift between them. This means the system can usually be rewired to run 240V equipment off of hot to hot instead of hot to neutral. With a proper cable, the oven can be connected to a suitably rated ‘dryer socket’ as found in many US homes. For safety reasons, any electrical wiring work should be undertaken by a suitably qualified electrician.
...Lets say 10mm laminate can we cure using this ovens? Also, what would be the approximate time it takes to cure a 2mm laminates?
The thickness of the laminate does not really determine the cure time, although it will have some effect. For typical laminate thickness of 0.75 to 4mm then you would just follow the recommended cure cycle for the prepreg that you're using. The heat will penetrate quite quickly through the prepreg laminate.
As you start to move towards very thick laminates then things get less predictable because you need to start considering the 'exotherm' of the resin whilst it cures. This means that thicker laminates can actually be a problem because they potential cure too quickly, not too slowly. Most prepregs will list a maximum recommended thickness for the laminate. If they don't then some experimentation will be required and will often involve slowing the cure down (so lower temperatures for a longer time) to reach initial cure before following up with a post cure. This allows time for the heat generated by the resin to dissipate rather than build-up uncontrollably.
The time it would take to cure a 2mm laminate would depend on the prepreg you're using and the cure temperature. In theory, using a 'snap cure' prepreg and a high cure temperature you could potentially cure a 2mm laminate in 10 mins but for more conventional out-of-autoclave prepregs (where the steady ramp and soaks help with the surface finish) you would need to follow something quite close to the recommended cure cycles to achieve the best results (which are typically around 4-5hrs.
If you're on this page then you should be able to see the oven price and options listed above. The price you see is the price of the oven and then as you add the options you need the price will update, showing you the total including those selected options. Please email us if you're having trouble with this.
The OV301 oven does not come with a pump. However it has, built into it, two vacuum ports and a vacuum pump control socket. You can also fit the optional valve and gauge assemblies should you wish to have easy vacuum control and pressure indication for your vacuum bags inside the oven. Our EC4 Compact Industrial Vacuum Pump is fully compatible and highly recommended for use with the OV301 (and matches it too!).
I wanted to tell you how impressed I am with the Oven. I’ve just written and run my first automated program, and touch wood, your gear hasn’t missed a beat. Have just completed an 18 hour cycle time with ram up to 40 degrees, hold for 5 hours cool down over an hour and then ram up 50 through to 70 degrees and holding each temperature for one hour before ramping up to 80 degrees and holding for 5 hours. Your oven has done exactly that. All in all, VERY happy!
This is a great addition to the workshop and has proven to be such a great asset. Great build quality with exceptional features. Reaches temperature promptly and maintains required temp very well, making it very energy efficient. If EC decide to produce a slightly larger one we wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Although the features swayed us towards this over others on the market, it's nice to know EC are able to supply parts if and when they need replacing.
I just wanted to let you know how impressed I am with the redesigned composite oven (OV301). I bought it because the doors on the older model were sometimes popping open, when it got to temperature, and I could see this newer version had solved that. I had no idea that the vacuum ports are so much better and the programming/control module is in a different league! Great work, thanks very much.
Thanks Adam, that's great feedback. Yes, along with every other part of the oven, the new touch-screen controller is now completely designed and built by us. It was a big project to create a powerful but easy-to-use controller specifically for this project but we're delighted with the end result and feedback has been really positive so it was well worth it.
if you are new starter or advance person like me, you will soon or later come to the point and find out cleanest way to make composites is PREPEG, and for that you really need a reliable heating oven. In the past i tried powder coating ovens, kitchen ovens, advance kitchen cookers, nothing but nothing come close to this product. Yes it is a chunk of money to invest but it will really make the work so easy. Made my first high temp moulds no cracks no imperfections, no prints just amazing. This oven is a piece of art. My only negative comment would be, touch screen is not very sensitive, but hey ? you have a oven with a computer ! addition note: even 150 degrees Celsius, the oven doesnt give any heat to the outside , its sealed so good i cant believe it ! Best Curing oven in the world, no i am not get paid from them not even get a discount which i understand now.
Thank you for your review, we really appreciate your comments and taking the time. We will of course pass on your comment about the touch screen. Thanks.
