S120 is a remarkable new generation of high performance board sealer recommended for the sealing and restoring of epoxy and polyurethane model/tooling board and composite moulds. S120 can transform machined-finish tooling board into a hard-wearing high-gloss finish pattern or mould in just a few applications.
S120's high-solids formulation means that new boards can be sealed and glossed in around 8 applications resulting in a hard-wearing, high gloss surface ready for release agent preparation. S120 is suitable for use on new model board or tooling board patterns as well as on low to medium volume tooling board moulds and high volume composite moulds.
Cured applications of S120 can be flatted and polished, allowing a high quality, glossy surface finish to be produced on most pattern and mould materials.
Typical Uses
S120 Tooling Board Sealer is ideal for the sealing, glossing and restoring of:
S120 is also suitable for eliminating porosity and restoring gloss to deteriorated surfaces on moulds made from epoxy, polyester and vinylester resin systems.

How to Use
SB120 can be applied by wiping or spraying. When applying the sealer by hand, a lint-free wipe should be used. When spraying the sealer, smaller areas can be sprayed using a trigger-action atomiser whereas larger patterns will require a HPLV spray gun. In all cases, the sealer needs to be built-up over a number of applications and will usually involve some light flatting and finishing part-way through the process.
See technical datasheet for full details on application and finishing of the S120 Advanced Board & Mould Sealer
Moisture Sensitivity
S120 Advanced Board & Mould Sealer is very sensitive to moisture and must be stored in a tightly sealed container. Each time the container is opened the life of the product will be reduced and as such it is strongly recommended to only purchase the amount you need for your current project or to purchase the board sealer in multiple smaller packs which can remain sealed until you need them.
Spray Nozzles
IMPORTANT: Spray nozzles fit the 50ml and 250ml packs only. They do not fit the 1l pack.
The 50ml and 250ml pack sizes are sealed with a normal cap but are shipped including one trigger spray nozzle. When using the trigger spray nozzle, the S120 will cure inside the nozzle within around 30-40 minutes so the nozzle can be used for multiple sequential applications on the same project but will cure in the nozzle immediately afterwards. Additional spray nozzles can be purchased separately.
When not in use, the product should be sealed with the original cap, not the spray nozzle otherwise contamination and premature expiry of the product will occur.

Spare nozzles for the S120 Board Sealer are available to purchase on the following page: Trigger Spray Nozzle for S120 Bottles.
It depends on the porosity of the material but typically 50ml would cover about 1sqm as a single layer. For something like our EB700 tooling block, that equates in practice to a 50ml bottle being able to seal a block of EB700 about 30x30cm with the necessary 5 or so coats.
The best product to clean the gun is acetone.
It's certainly true that the first few coats of the S120 board sealer will 'soak' into the MDF. This is the expected behaviour. MDF is very porous and so the first few coats of the sealer will soak into the MDF but this will make it less porous so that subsequent applications start to not soak in as much and soon you'll find that the sealer won't soak in and will start to sit on the surface as you would want.
If you'd prefer to use less board sealer then an alternative would be to 'paint' a layer of epoxy resin onto the MDF first; this will still soak in to an extent (which is a good thing) but is likely to stop the porosity of the MDF in a single application. Because the resin is thicker you would then need to flat it back to a good finish and then you could proceed with the S120 without it soaking in to the MDF.
Yes, you MUST use a release agent after finishing with the S120 Board Sealer. The sealer does NOT add any release properties to the surfaces sealed with it.
No, S120 Board Sealer is NOT suitable for use on extruded polystyrene based products as the solvent content will dissolve the polystyrene surface.
Yes you can use polyester on top of the S120 finished mould. We would not expect any problems as long as the mould has had release agent applied since the repair.
When you do use S120 to restore a mould that has previously been used though, it's vitally important to remove *any* traces of release agent from the mould. Normally, this requires completely flatting back the mould surface with something like a 1200 grit paper. If you don't do this properly and there are any traces of release agent left of the mould surface then the S120 will be unable to stick to the mould and will fish-eye away or delaminate.
Ideally use the product outside to avoid any exposure to fumes/solvents, however this is dependent on environmental conditions being suitable, especially taking into account factors such as temperature, moisture, wind speed and airbourne particulates.
This means in practice, it is often only practical to work indoors. You will need to work in a well ventilated environment and take personal protection measures by wearing suitable gloves to avoid skin exposure and a suitable mask to protect your airway. Further specific details can be found in the Safety Data Sheet.
